⚖️ The Balancing Act

Having a 9-5 and trying to build something simultaneously is one of the most challenging things to do. Not because of the task itself but because of the mental games that we have to play within our own mind to be able to progress and move forward in this regard.

Why is this hard?

  1. External forces - We care about what our community thinks. We care about what our peers think. This comes from our natural instinct to want to be part of a community or tribe.
  2. Internal forces - We begin to question our own ability. As we try to do something that most people around us are not doing, we tend to ask ourselves questions like "Am I just fooling myself?", "Am I delusional to think that this could become something someday??", "Is this worth my time?" and the list goes on and on...
  3. Lack of time - Between working my 9-5 and trying not to get fired, how am I supposed to do all of this extra stuff like making content or trying to land clients?
  4. Lack of knowledge - Where do I even begin? How do I do this?

Now let's explore solutions to each one...

  1. External forces - When you find yourself in a challenging situation, ask yourself "Does the opinion of this individual affect or directly influence my end goal or objective?". Another way to think about this is, "Is this person part of my target audience?/Is this person a prospective client?". If the answer to all of it is 'No' then this person's opinion should not matter. Move on. This is the most objective way to deal with this challenge.
  2. Internal forces - Think about your life. However old you may be, you've had this very unique set of experiences. Is there anybody else on the planet, who has had the EXACT same experiences as you, being in situations EXACTLY like you have, with the EXACT same outcomes, challenges and learnings? I'm pretty sure the answer is 'No' unless you're Spiderman living in a multiverse with endless possibilities (but even in that situation there are so many differences and its never the exact same... sorry Im a marvel geek... moving on.)
So, since you've had this unique journey, your learnings are unique and the things you get to share with others and the WAY in which you would teach or share your perspective, IS UNIQUE. Thus your perspective matters. YOU matter.
  3. Lac of time - Here's the hard truth, it's not about time, it's about priorities. Everyone has the exact same 24 hours, they just use it differently. Look at your 24 hours in a day and ask yourself, "What am I doing now that takes lesser priority than what I know I should (&want to) be doing?". This way of thinking will help you find time. It's not about "making sacrifices", it's about making choices. You're welcome.
  4. Lack of knowledge - Everyone starts from zero. Here are 3 ways to get the knowledge you need. *I'll leave the obvious out "TO GOOGLE IT"*
    1. Peer Networking - Connect with the people who are doing exactly what you want to do. People who are not too far off from where you aspire to be.
    2. Aspirational Networking - Connect with the people you aspire to be like in the distant future. It's important to reach out to them and try to pick their brain because who else would be able to give you context and insight into what you could do, than these folk.
    3. Follow Creators - There are thousands of creators sharing their knowledge and expertise FOR FREE on the internet. Follow them - Pay attention to what they say - Execute. It is not rocket science. It just requires your focus & attention.

The question is are you going to do something about this?
