That time I tried fasting for 88 hours 😳

Letter #002

Challenges are cool.

Heyya! How has your week been? Still waiting for summer here in Toronto so I hope you're doing better haha. Let's dive into the highlights for this week:
💧 My experience of water-fasting for 88 hours
💎 Why challenges are important
⚡️ 1 Actionable Tip

A few weeks back I was not feeling so great. Had a conversation with someone who said something which de-motivated me from doing all of my side hustle stuff. Even though most people pretend like everything is fine (especially on social media) the truth is far from it.

So in order to shake this off and allow myself to transition to a new start I wanted to do something drastic (my general vibe is also kinda dramatic cuz 🙄 yeah I'm a bit extra lol) So I joined a 4-day water fast workshop!

Here's what happened...

I’d been following Master Hou for a while - He talks about Qigong and Health and how you can improve your general wellbeing. So I signed up for his 4-day Water Fasting Program.

Day 1:

8am: “I’m pumped! Let’s do this”
12pm: “Who needs coffee when I have water”
3pm: “Damn some lunch wouldve been pretty nice”
6pm: “Screw this Im done I cant survive 2 more days of starving. I’m just going to join the workshop Zoom call and right after eat something.”
7-9pm: Attended the Zoom call with 30 others who were going through the same challenge. On the call we had a few guided group exercises which really helped me feel better.
After the call I was all hyped up and ready for day 2.

Day 2:

Summary: Probably the toughest day cuz your body starts fighting hard looking for ways to find resources that can help gain energy. My Migraine was off the charts. Again, I was done with it and ready to quit after the daily Zoom call.
7pm: Same thing as day 1. Seeing everyone else hold their ground and power through the discomfort and challenge, made me want to push another day. If I was already at day 2, I just had one more day to go to hit the 72 hour fasting mark.

Day 3:

Acceptance. I was almost at the finish line. At this point quitting would mean that everything I’d suffered for, for 2 days was a waste. So I decided to power through. I had some acid reflux issues and slight headache but doing the exercises helped a lot.

Day 4:

The day I break my fast. The first thing I ate was Kale and Celery. Yuck right? Lol but funny thing happened, the moment I had my first bite, I BURST OUT LAUGHING. I have no clue why. But after not eating for 88 hours, the sensation of chewing and eating something made me feel so happy.

It makes you realize how you take these small things for granted.

Click a button and you get food within 10 minutes. It’s only natural that your level of gratitude just fades away. So challenges like these are good to help you stay grounded.

💪Why are challenges good?

Challenges are a way for you to break away from "the usual". When someone asks you how you're doing... you know how most of the time we say "Nothing much, the usual...". That's going to change. You will have focus on something which will make you uncomfortable (for sure, thats why its called a challenge) but you wont be the same person coming out of it. You'll be better. Do you want to be better?
Challenge Suggestions: Project 50, 75 Hard, 30 days of reading 10 pages every day, 23 days of working out for 1h daily, 30 days of no sugar.... you get where I'm going with this...

Set a reminder: Before next Saturday, you should write down something that you wish to improve on, in your life. (Do it 🙄 🫵)

Next week I'll give you the tools needed to track this. For now, figure out what you want to improve.
